Dubai Visits Visa Online Application Form
Travelling to Dubai on an Australian passport is refreshingly simple — no visa application, no online form, no waiting on approval. A Dubai visa for Australia citizens is really just a stamp you get on arrival. Here's what that looks like in practice, plus what's genuinely useful to know if you're flying out from an Australian city.
Quick facts for Australian travellers
-
Visa: free 30-day visa on arrival, stamped at Dubai airport
-
UAE embassy for Australia: Canberra
-
Flight: direct Emirates and Qantas services from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane, around 14 hours
-
Currency: Australian Dollar (AUD) → UAE Dirham (AED)
No Visa Needed: Australia's Free 30-Day Entry
Australian citizens get a free 30-day visa on arrival at Dubai International Airport. There's no advance application — you land, your passport gets stamped at immigration, and that's it.
Dubai visa requirements for Australia are minimal: a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, and that's really the core of it. No online form to fill out beforehand, no fee to pay.
If your trip needs something the 30-day stamp doesn't cover — a longer stay, a work visa, or bringing family across on a sponsored visa — a Dubai tourist visa from Australia covering those situations can be arranged through our Dubai visit visa service, or our Express Visa option if you're short on time.
Getting There: Direct Flights From Every Major City
Dubai is genuinely well connected to Australia. Emirates flies direct from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane, with Qantas operating codeshare services on several of the same routes. Perth is the shortest hop, given its location on Australia's west coast; from the eastern cities, expect to be in the air for around 14 hours.
The UAE Embassy in Canberra
The UAE and Australia have had diplomatic relations since 1975, and the UAE's embassy sits in Canberra.
-
Address: 20 Pindari Crescent, O'Malley ACT 2606, Canberra
-
Phone: (02) 6286 8802
-
Email: canberraemb@mofa.gov.ae
-
Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM
Since the visa-on-arrival covers most trips, Australia passport holders Dubai visa questions rarely need the embassy at all — it's more relevant for document attestation or anything a standard visit wouldn't cover.
AUD to AED: Money Matters
The Australian dollar floats against other currencies, while the UAE dirham is pegged to the US dollar — so your AUD-to-AED rate will track the AUD/USD rate more than anything the UAE does on its own. Cards are accepted almost everywhere in Dubai, and ATMs dispensing dirhams are easy to find, so there's no need to carry much cash. Our guide to currency in Dubai covers exchange and spending in more detail.
Escaping Winter? Timing Your Trip Right
Here's a common assumption worth correcting: if you're hoping to escape Australia's winter (June–August) with guaranteed sun, Dubai isn't actually the best pick for that window — June to September is Dubai's hottest, most humid stretch. The better overlap is around Australia's own summer holidays: December through February falls right inside Dubai's most comfortable season, October to April, so a Christmas or New Year trip works out well on both ends. Our best time to visit Dubai guide breaks the year down month by month.
