Your Dubai visits visa arrives by email as a PDF entry permit issued through the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Dubai. Nothing is stamped or stuck into your passport — you print the e-visa and present it with your passport at airline check-in and on arrival in the UAE.

The sample here shows the fields to check the moment your visa arrives: your full name and passport number, the visa type, the entry type (single or multiple), the date of issue, and the "valid until" date. Two dates matter, and they measure different things — validity is the window in which you must enter the UAE, while your permitted stay (for example 30 or 60 days, depending on the visa) only starts counting on the day you land.

One visa covers the whole of the UAE. You can arrive in Dubai and travel on to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, or any other emirate on the same permit — no separate visa is needed between emirates.

A note on visa on arrival: a handful of nationalities can be granted a visa at the Dubai airport itself — and we still advise flying with a pre-arranged visa. It is the airline, not the traveller, that decides who boards; a check-in agent who cannot confirm your on-arrival eligibility will offload a passenger sooner than risk a penalty, and that discovery always comes at the worst possible moment. Unless you hold written proof from the airline or UAE immigration that entry will be granted on arrival, a sponsored Dubai visits visa issued before departure is the only form of "eligible" that no counter can question.
