German travellers can board a flight to Dubai without arranging a visa first, but the passport they carry matters more than many expect. Before you pack, it also helps to know the banned items in Dubai, since a few everyday medicines and products face strict UAE customs rules.
Entry Rules for German Travellers
Do Germans need a visa for Dubai? Just the stamp issued on landing. The Dubai Visa for German citizens takes the form of a 90-day entry stamp from UAE immigration, so leisure trips and family visits need no prior purchase. Anyone searching for a Dubai tourist visa from Germany or a Dubai transit visa for Germans can stop there: leaving the airport on a stopover is covered by the same stamp.
Which German Documents Are Accepted
Is a German ID card enough for Dubai? No. The German Personalausweis for Dubai is not accepted, and neither is a temporary passport (vorläufiger Reisepass). A full Reisepass valid for six months or longer beyond the entry date is the safest document, and ADAC notes that passports showing an "X" gender entry have been refused.
Children and Temporary Documents
A Kinderreisepass for the UAE is recognised only if it has never been extended, so check the issue history before booking a family trip.
Your 90-Day Stay
How long can German tourists stay in Dubai? The ceiling is 90 days, with multiple entries allowed while the stamp remains valid.
Important note: Days spent on separate trips count toward the same 90-day allowance, and overstays are fined daily. Anyone planning to work or settle needs a different permit, explained in our guide to Dubai entry permit vs residence visa.
Flying From Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf and Hamburg
Which German airports have direct flights to Dubai? Emirates serves four: Frankfurt to Dubai has the widest choice, with Munich, Düsseldorf and Hamburg also connected non-stop.
What About Berlin?
Are there direct Berlin to Dubai flights? Not with Emirates for now. Although the expanded air services agreement opened the door, the airline has said it will not start BER flights until a dispute over how that agreement is read is settled, so Berlin passengers connect via another hub.
Living in Germany on Another Passport
Residence in Germany does not change the UAE rule; nationality decides it. When pre-approval is required for your passport, start a Dubai visit visa application to secure your Dubai Visa from Germany, pick an urgent Dubai visit visa for close departures, and follow the Dubai visa application status online.
Searching for a Germany visit visa from Dubai instead? That is a Schengen visa decided by German authorities, not a service we provide, although relatives whose passports require pre-approval can use the Dubai visa express option. Final entry decisions stay with UAE immigration officers.
